Powerful Voice & Music Hall Of Famer
Deborah Cox
Toronto native Deborah Cox, a vocal powerhouse and accomplished singer, embarked on her musical journey at a young age, performing in nightclubs and entering talent shows with her mother’s support. Discovered by Arista president Clive Davis shortly after high school, Cox’s 1995 debut showcased her vocal prowess with hits like “Sentimental,” which she co-wrote. Subsequent albums, including One Wish (1998) and The Morning After (2002), demonstrated her versatility, with club-friendly singles dominating the dance charts. In 2007, Cox paid tribute to Dinah Washington with Destination Moon, featuring a full orchestra. She continued her success in contemporary R&B with The Promise (2008) and made a notable foray into musical theater in 2012’s Jekyll & Hyde revival. Cox’s role as the singing voice for Whitney Houston in the 2015 TV biopic Whitney earned her acclaim, and she later joined the U.S. tour of The Bodyguard musical in 2016. Cox’s diverse career also includes a cover EP, I Will Always Love You (2017), and collaborations with artists like the Soul of Richard Rodgers album.
